What is the Annual Financial Report?
The annual financial report (AFR) is the report of the financial audit that takes place after the end of the fiscal year. Village staff work with independent audit consultants to compile information on the Village's governmental financial activities, business-like activities, major funds, and other financial information. It is the Village's responsibility to create and present the financial statements, and the audit performed by consultants involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and disclosures in those financial statements. This process includes the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error. An audit also includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies and the reasonableness of significant accounting estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of the financial statements.
