About
On March 21, 2019, the Village Board passed Ordinance 19-07 Places for Eating Tax. Every business that sells prepared food or beverages at retail in Hampshire is required to pay a two percent (2%) tax on the gross receipts received for such. See the Village Code section on the Places for Eating Tax for more information about the regulations.
Payments
Tax Return Form
If you have already registered for the Places for Eating Tax, you may make the required payments at Village Hall using the tax return form provided by the Village. Payments can also be made online. Payments are due the 20th day of the month following the end of the reporting period.
Filing Frequency
Places for Eating Tax returns must be filed monthly unless your business files Illinois Retailers'/Service Occupation Tax returns at a different interval (e.g., quarterly). In such case, the Places for Eating Tax returns are due to the Village at that same interval.
Penalties
Any tax due which is not paid when due shall accrue interest at the rate of 1% monthly until paid.
Failure to register for and pay the Places for Eating Tax is a serious business offense and can result in penalties of up to $750 per day of non-payment and loss of all Village licensing including liquor license.
