Stormwater Management
The Village of Hampshire is committed to managing and mitigating the effects of urbanization on stormwater drainage throughout the Village by means of planning, applying appropriate engineering practices, and enforcing proper maintenance of stormwater management facilities. The Village has adopted the Kane County Stormwater Ordinance to promote effective, equitable, acceptable, and legal stormwater management measures by establishing reasonable rules and regulations for development. Furthermore, to provide developers and applicants assistance in complying with the Stormwater Ordinance and the technical requirements of a stormwater permit application, Kane County has developed the Kane County Technical Guidance Manual as a technical guide.

Floodplains and Flooding
The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) provides protection for property owners against flood loss while working with communities to develop Floodplain Management programs. Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) identify areas of high risk. The Engineering Division maintains current FEMA maps and assists residents, realtors and engineers in determining whether a floodplain encroaches on a property. FEMA maps are also available on-line.
