Form of Government
The Village of Hampshire is a non-home rule municipality that operates under a modified Mayor-Council form of government. The Village President is the chief executive officer of the Village, and the six Trustees are the legislative body. All are elected at-large by Village residents and serve four-year terms. Visit the Boards and Commissions page to read more about the Board of Trustees and the several other boards/commissions in the Village.
Administration
The Village chooses to employ a professional Village Manager to serve as the chief administrative officer responsible for the day-to-day operations of services, leadership of the several departments in the Village, and the execution of policies set by the Board of Trustees. The Village Manager is appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees.
Additionally, the Village President, with the advise and consent of the Board of Trustees, also appoints a Village Clerk whom is responsible for all records in the Village and serves as the Village's FOIA officer, and a Village Attorney whom is responsible for all legal matters.
